Shochu'sDay w. Ian Rittmaster via Zoom

You may remember Ian Rittmaster, who worked with us from 2019-2023. He left us for a life in Japan, which we can't blame him for! We'd like to think his shochu journey began here with us at Umami Mart, and he certainly must love the sake bottle shop life as he now works at Kadoya Saketen in the Ibaraki neighborhood of Osaka. 

At Kadoya, Ian's a jack of all trades, just as he was at Umami Mart, lovingly describing bottles of shochu and sake for the newsletter and live Instragram streams. His passion is palpable in any language, and is felt to all his customers, past and present.

Join us for a very special event with Ian, as he Zooms in from Osaka (on his day off, no less), to taste some of his very favorite shochus with us. Shochuheads will not want to miss this! Details below on the two shochus that Ian has chosen for this event.

Ushinone Jouryusho in Tarumizu, Kagoshima
2500 bottle production, black koji, Mitsuteki Imo (Beniharuka) 25%abv

Maaransen 
Tomita Shuzojo in Amami City, Amami Oshima
Shiro koji, 33% ABV
